Finding a Place to Serve at or through Seneca Presbyterian Church

The church is a family of volunteers faithfully offering the gifts they have received from God for the work of the church. Those gifts can be shared within the ministries of SPC or we can help you find a place of service in one of the many community organizations where SPC people are engaged.

Matching gifts and people to the right opportunity to serve is an important way of nurturing faith as well as supporting the  ministry of organizations engaged in God's work in the world. Often people wait to be asked if they would be willing to volunteer, but the process needs to be a two-way conversation.

Listed below are  opportunities for service where volunteers are needed now. They include  a brief description and a response form. If you see an opportunity that intrigues you and you would like more information, complete the response form. It will prompt a process to connect you with someone directly involved in that ministry who can answer your questions. They can also put you to work - IF you want to! Asking for more information  does NOT obligate you to say yes.  Volunteering needs to be a match of need and gift. Christian theologian Frederick Buechner said it well: The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet.

  • Gophers

Have car will travel! Several years ago, Ann Smith asked Sandra Pruitt at Seneca's United Way what their greatest need was. The answer was transportation!  Folk without access to personal transportation needed to get to doctor's appointments, to the Department of Social Services, or Social Security. That need launched our GOPHER ministry.

GOPHERS volunteer to be contacted when someone contacts us and needs a ride.  Hopefully they are letting us know with a least a few days notice. The Gopher is free to accept or decline the opportunity based on his or her personal schedule.  If they accept, they will receive the address and contact information of the person requesting the ride along with the time and location of the destination. Most GOPHER rides are two-way (from home and back), but requests and availability can vary. All you need to be a GOPHER is a car and the willingness to meet a "stranger" and help with their need. You can be assured that many of the people we help are known to us. We have helped them in the past. If you wish more information, click here.
